"UBC professor Kerry Jang has told the Straight that a new Vancouver Police Department report suggests that officers on the beat are “truly in crisis mode”. "Kerry Jang, a Vision Vancouver member and a declared aspirant for a slot on the party’s council slate, said the nomination rules allow for flexibility in working with COPE. Vision councillor George Chow noted that there’s still plenty of time for the two parties to work out their differences before the election". Click here to read more.

Vancouver Think City

April 13, 2007

"Under the mayor's Project Civil City initiative, city hall hopes to develop long-term and sustainable solutions to homelessness, drug addiction and mental illness by 2010. However, Think City board member and public health expert Dr. Kerry Jang says the city's harm reduction efforts must focus on all drugs, including alcohol. Dr. Jang cites a just-published study in the British medical journal the Lancet that finds alcohol is more dangerous than many illegal drugs as one more reason why the proposed liquor outlet expansion has to be carefully considered." From Think City Minute April 13, 2007.

January 29, 2007

"According to Think City board member and UBC Professor of Psychiatry Dr. Kerry Jang, the Sullivan plan does not provide any details on the medical justification for the treatment program, what specific drugs addicts will be prescribed, or how addicts are to be reliably monitored or followed up by those administering the program." From Think City Minute January 29, 2007.

January 17, 2007

"Think City board member and mental health expert Dr. Kerry Jang says NPA Councillor Kim Capri needs to retool her Project Civil City initiative, saying council has the wrong solution and is largely ignoring the needs of homeless people who are not mentally ill." From Think City Minute January 17, 2007.

January 9, 2007

"Six babies were born in a Vancouver hospital Sunday, between 25 and 26 weeks of gestation. One baby was born naturally and the others by caesarean section; they weight less than two pounds each -- and the odds against them are heavy.

"[The family] did a good job of protecting their privacy," said Dr. Kerry Jang, a psychologist specializing in multiple-birth studies at the University of British Columbia's department of psychiatry. "Nobody, except a few people who obviously needed to know, knew this was happening." Click here to read more.

May 3, 2006

In a Vancouver Sun letter to the editor, UBC Prof. of Psychiatry Kerry Jang argues: "It's very sad to see that Vancouver Mayor Sam Sullivan prefers to blame his political opponents for the furore over his 'research' on drug addiction instead of recognizing that his actions were simply irresponsible. There is no excuse for providing substance abusers with drugs just to see what happens." Click here to read more about what Kerry wrote.
