Acting Mayor Didn't Get Enough From Budget
CKNW - March 03, 2010
Vancouver's Acting Mayor isn't pleased to see no new money for housing in the Provincial Budget, "This is very much a stand-pat budget."
Vision Vancouver's Kerry Jang says that's not good enough for the homeless.
Jang says the Province has committed to help build housing on six of 14 city-owned sites, "What I'm worried about, of course, is that with no new funding for shelters or interim housing at all, or anything really for housing, is that this year all those people that are in shelter now getting better, all the gains we started to make, will be back out on the street, and we will lose those gains."
The City's three HEAT shelters are set to close at the end of April without more Provincial funding.
Mayor Gregor Robertson is in Ottawa to lobby for more spending on social housing and transportation.
