UBC Professor Kerry Jang Seeks Vision Vancouver Nomination

UBC Professor Kerry Jang and former Vancouver School Board Trustee Andrea Reimer have announced yesterday that they will be seeking nomination for City Council under the Vision Vancouver banner. They stated that homelessness, mental illnesses and drug addiction are some of the most pressing issues that Vancouver faces. The Current government has lost the best time to solve such problems, making the situation more serious as time passes.

Kerry is a psychiatry professor at UBC and he states that based on the many years of experiences he has, Mayor Sam Sullivan doesn’t need to spend the extra 300 thousand dollars on Geoff Plant’s research for Project Civil City, as there are already plenty of reports on mental illnesses, drug addictions and homelessness. As part of a new City Council they promised to spend such money on under-privileged populations, not on more research and talking. He is also a supporter of the safe injection site INSITE.

Kerry also thinks that to improve the tourism of Chinatown, there should be more stores with a cultural touch and fewer dollar-stores. He believes that people come to Chinatown for its cultural uniqueness and not for the cheap shopping.
