Kerry Jang Announces He is Running for Vancouver City Council

UBC psychiatry professor and long-time community activist Kerry Jang has officially announced his running for Vancouver city Council on the 24th. He will seek nomination under the Vision Vancouver banner and join the November municipal elections.

Kerry Jang is currently teaching at the UBC Psychiatry Department. He has dedicated a lot of time on the homelessness, addiction and mental illness issues that Vancouver faces. Even though he has been involved with Vancouver politics for a while, it is not until the 24th has the announcement become official. Yesterday, Jang and well-known environmentalist Andrea Reimer announced their joint bid for the nominations at the Sun Yat Sen Garden in Vancouver’s Chinatown, and many supporters appeared.

Kerry stressed that it is an honour to work as a team with Andrea. He believes that they have a lot in common in their views of environmental concerns, homelessness, drugs, and mental illness. They have the confidence to work together and represent Vision Vancouver to win the municipal elections later this year, and bring real lasting changes to Vancouver.

He criticizes that the current NPA government has lost the golden opportunity to solve the many social issues Vancouver faces. Today homelessness and mental illness are not only problems specific to the Downtown Eastside but are issues everywhere in Vancouver.
